Keratosis PilarisThe good news is yes, painlessly and efficiently.

If you haven’t got KP, then you won’t know what it is. If you’ve got it you know exactly what those little red spots on your skin are.

KP is also known as “chicken pox” skin, because that’s pretty much what it looks like – a case of chicken pox.

It’s a very common skin complaint that although harmless can be unsightly as the skin appears rough with small red, bumps on fair skinned people and darker spots on those with dark skin. There are usually no other symptoms, but sometimes the skin can be a bit itchy.

Keratosis pilaris occurs when the human body produces excess amounts of the skin protein called keratin. This in turn forms small raised bumps trapping hair follicles in the pores. Often this will also mean ingrown hairs will occur as the keratin forms a barrier preventing the hair from escaping.

Keratosis-Pilaris-DiagramThe most common presentation that I have seen is on the arms, but I have also treated backs, legs and buts. Sometimes it can appear on the face as well. In fact, it can appear on almost every part of the body except the palms of hands and soles of the feet.

When it appears on the face, clients will often think they have acne.

The condition is experienced all year but the colder months seem to make it worse, making it look redder and darker. Pregnancy or post-childbirth can also make it look worse.

How do we treat it?

EASY

Depending on the severity of the condition, we will first do a peel to remove the topical keratin forming the bumps. We follow up with two to three laser treatments with our Norseld Dual Yellow. These treatments are quick and pain free and will begin the process of restructuring your skin so that it is healthier and functioning more efficiently. This assists in the reduction of pigmentation and future keratin deposits

There is no downtime after your treatments at all.

This is followed with at home care with our Elizabeth Arden PRO Peel Pads and Sun Block that also contains antioxidants and DNA Repair complex.

All in all a quick, pain free process with impressive results.
